"The Big Picture" underground at Griffith Observatory. They recently finished a 4.5 year $93 million remodel of the observatory. This room was all dirt prior to Jan 2, 2002. They lifted the entire observatory on hydraulic jacks and dug out this room, and poured the concrete support beams that make up the ceiling, in place, then set the original building back down.

The giant wall of space represents the portion of sky that would be covered by holding your finger a foot away from your eyes, as Albert Einstein is doing here.

The Foucault pendulum. The man in the picture on the wall is Griffith J. Griffith (yes, same first & last name) for whom the Observatory is named after. He was a rich man from the late 1800s that donated a bunch of land that became Griffith Park. He also once saw through a 12 inch telescope and said that the world would change if all of humanity could see through one, hence the observatory was made. Griffith Observatory has had more visitors than any other in the world.

The ceiling above the Foucault pendulum. If you look closely, there's a dark rectangle at the bottom of the sun that is the original condition of the painting before the observatory's restoration.
